A hymn to Byzantium
Article Abstract:
Leading Catholic architect John Francis Bentley's masterpiece was the design of London's Westminster Cathedral. Work on the Roman Catholic cathedral began in 1895 and it was consecrated in 1910. Bentley's masterpiece was thought at the time to be too exotic for England but it remains as a monument to an inventive era of British architecture, although it has never been completed as he intended. A history of Westminster Cathedral is presented.
