A new Bangkok industry: traffic-time gizmos
Article Abstract:
Bangkok residents are finding creative solutions to the city's chronic traffic congestion problem. It is estimated that each resident spends around 44 full days on the road and that traffic jams cost Bangkok $2 billion annually as a result of lost productivity, wasted fuel and health care problems. The seemingly permanent gridlock has spawned a number of traffic-related products and services, such as gas masks, portable urinals, and even a customized van that offers a wide array of office equipment.

Tourists find solitude in war-torn Sri Lanka
Article Abstract:
The bloody conflict between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil separatist rebels has prompted many tourists to stay away from the country. This has been a disaster for Sri Lanka's hotels, resorts and nightclubs, many of which have seen very few guests in the past months in the wake of Jaffna's capture by government forces. The capital city of Colombo is hunkered down as if for a siege, with barbed wire and machine guns conspicuously present at many corners.

Golden Triangle has new kind of hustle, bustle
Article Abstract:
The area where Laos, Thailand and Burma meet has been transformed from a region notorious for its drug barons and tribal warlords into a thriving town full of shops, food stalls and hotels. Called the Golden Triangle, this area has become a popular destination for tourists since being promoted by Thai authorities as the 'northernmost point in Thailand.' Cash-starved Burma is also eager to market the Golden Triangle as a tourist destination.
