Scientists are studying the function of vaults, a tiny element of every cell. It is believed that vaults act as a transportation system within cells. In cancerous cells, the vaults may transport the medicines meant to destroy cell into the cells disposal system, making the drugs less effective.

Peek-a-boo: lung cancer
Article Abstract:
Lung-imaging fluorescent endoscopy (LIFE), developed by Branko Palcic and Stephen Lam, locates the beginnings of lung tumors by observing the red or green glow of cells under ultraviolet light. Palcic is developing another test to screen likely patients for LIFE.
