A praline kind of party
Article Abstract:
Republican state governors are meeting in California and aim to change the system of government in the US, as well as secure the election of George Bush as president. Republican gvernors have increased their political weight, and have obtained strong job approval ratings. They favor tax cuts and non-ideological Republicanism, with an emphasis on compassion. They are pragmatic and prepared to compromise, representing all voters of a state. This a a contrast with Congressional Republicans. They favor devolution, with greater power for states.

Gary Bauer's glass door
Article Abstract:
Gary Bauer is an example of the religious right and its influence in US politics, though the religious rights appears to be more subdued in the Republican Party. The two most prominent candidates are also using religious language, and the US murder rate has dropped, AIDS cases are falling in number, as are welfare rolls and abortions. There are divisions within the religious right on their links with the mainstream, and on whether to support Steve Forbes or Gary Bauer as candidate.
