Recovering lost ground
Article Abstract:
There has been a revival recently in the French buyout market, which had been in decline since 1991. There have been a considerable number of divestments, and this is now a significant area of activity. It is now expected that the number of French buyouts will at least double over the next five years, particularly if the French venture capital association is successful in pressing for greater fiscal encouragement of the transfer of family companies where there are succession problems.

A significant recovery in French buyouts
Article Abstract:
The French buyout market may be affected by the general slowdown in the worldwide economy, during 1999, although deals are expected to arise from large corporations reorganizing their businesses. Some 44% of buyout transactions in France, during 1997, involved private or family owned companies. The value of buyout deals in France for 1998 are not predicted to include the very large deals agreed in 1997. The buyout of the privately owned Elis, for 6.1 billion French francs, was the major deal of 1997. The total value of buyout deals, in 1997, was 30.6 billion French francs.
