ABN Amro to pay $80 million fine over Iran, Libya

ABN AMRO Bank N.V. of the Netherlands has been fined $80 million by United States regulators for violating sanctions against Iran and Libya, as well as money-laundering laws. Most of the infractions were discovered by internal investigations of the bank after a decade of violations.

Two Latvia banks may be banned from U.S. market

VEF Bank and Multibanka of Latvia may be banned from operating in the United States. The Latvian banks are suspected of being used by Russian organized crime groups and others to infiltrate the financial systems of the United States and the European Union.
