Ashok Leyland Ltd has increased its market share in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment from 28 percent to 35 percent through its strategy of entering new markets and introducing new models. This 7 percent increase in marketshare has been achieved in the first nine months of 1998-99. The industry saw a decline of 35 percent in volume terms during April- December 1998, but Ashok Leyland was able to increase its marketshare as its volume decline was only 17 percent. (khr)

AMI TO INVEST $150 M IN INDIA

AMI Advisory Pvt Ltd, an infrastructure financing company of France, has plans to invest about $150 million in various infrastructure projects in India. The company, which has earmarked one-third of its total corpus of $450 million to be invested in India, plans to invest a minimum of $10 million in any project that it undertakes. Sources say that the company specifically wants to finance projects in the energy and roadways sectors. (khr)
