AP GOVT REJECTS RCL REQUEST FOR 2,000 ACRES OF LAND
Article Abstract:
The government of Andhra Pradesh has rejected the request of Rain Calcining Ltd (RCL) for allotment of 2,000 acres in the Parvada Industrial Development Area to set up its Rs7,500 crore 100 percent export oriented unit. The government says that the land which the company had identified overlaps into areas already given to Indo Rama Synthetics and Mahindra & Mahindra. It has directed RCL to identify land in nearby areas. The government has given its clearance to other requests of RCL such as erecting a single buoy mooring in the deep sea for receiving vessels of up to 200,000 deadweight tonnage size and laying a pipeline from the sea to the project site. GUJARAT GOVT OKAYS Rs650-CR JK CEMENTS' DHOLERA PORT
Article Abstract:
Following the Gujarat High Court order, the Gujarat Government recently cleared the Rs650 crore Dholera port project of JK Cements (JC) belonging to JK Group, in the Gulf of Cambay. JC proposes to build 8 cargo jetties, 3 liquid jetties and 1 container depot in the area. It will handle around 5 million tonnes (mt) of cargo, including 2 mt of liquid cargo, in the first phase. Work on the detailed project report will begin in September 1998. The report will be submitted to the State Government for approval in July 1999 and, after 2 years, operations will begin at the first jetty. JC recently acquired more than 5,000 acres of and for the project. (gsh)

BILT IN TALKS WITH GOVT TO REOPEN INGOT UNIT
Article Abstract:
Ballarpur Industries Limited (Bilt) of the Thapars, is negotiating with the West Bengal government to reopen its manufacturing unit in Calcutta. The Calcutta unit has been under work suspension since February 1997. The state government had asked Bilt to submit a proposal for a possible reopening of the unit. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 4,380 tonnes of non- ferrous ingots and 1,200 tonnes of alloy steel castings. In 1996- 97, the unit manufactured 500 tonnes of ingots. (gsh)
