LAKHANPAL NATIONAL-MATSUSHITA: NOW USING GREY CELLS

Lakhanpal National Limited (LNL), Baroda, plans to increase the market share of its Novino brand of batteries from 23 percent to 30 percent. Matsushita Battery Industrial Co, Japan and Matsushita Electric, Japan, have increased their stake in LNL to 51 percent. LNL posted a sales of Rs188 crore and net profit of Rs8.5 crore for 1997-98. LNL markets imported National Panasonic alkaline batteries from Matsushita. It manufactures zinc and ammonium chloride batteries. It plans to produce rechargeable nickel cadmium batteries in association with Matsushita. LNL practices Japanese shop floor management practices. The day-to- day operations of LNL are handled by Matsushita. (rk)

INDO NATIONAL POWERS SHAREHOLDERS WITH 1:1 BONUS

Indo National Limited (INL) has decided to issue bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1 to its existing shareholders. It has declared a dividend of 110 percent on an equity of Rs1.8 crore. INL has posted a 35 percent growth in net profit at Rs13.9 crore in 1997- 98 (Rs10.37 crore in 1996-97). Its sales had increased by 12 percent to Rs218 crore (Rs190 crore). The company makes the Nippo brand of batteries. Matsushita Electric of Japan has 40 percent stake in INL, Jiwarajka and Obul Reddy together have 40 percent stake and the balance is held by the public. (rk)
