AUSTRIA: BRAU UNION TESTING PET BOTTLES
Article Abstract:
Austria's biggest beer producer Brau Union is testing beer in single-trip PET bottles. If the test turns out to be successful, the company will launch Zipfer in brown 0.3-litre PET bottles by the end of year 2000. For this it will need a new bottling facility for 10,000-20,000 bottles per hour. Brau Union reports a 12% increase in the sales of canned beer. To meet this trend, the Gosser beer will be available in packets of six cans in future. Brau Union aims to boost the sales of weizen (wheat) beer by setting up restaurants of its own. The first Edelweiss restaurant is to be opened in Vienna by the end of year 2000. Among the specialities of the brewery is a new beer called Yeti-Gluhbier
