AUSTRIA: BUILDING MATERIAL PRICES FALLING
Article Abstract:
While a representative of the construction materials trade estimates that the prices of building materials in Austria have fallen by 3-4% in year 2000, the association of the stone and ceramic industry association estimates the fall at 5%. It estimates that since the beginning of 1998 the prices have fallen by 15%. The decline is attributed to the slack construction market and high capacity levels. The big manufacturer Wienerberger has seen a fall of about 6% in brick prices in Austria in year 2000. On the other hand, cement prices have risen slightly.
