AUSTRIA: EU INVESTIGATES TRADE BARRIERS
Article Abstract:
The European Commission is investigating Austrian regulations that are seen to hinder the imports of pharmaceutical and food products to Austria. Austria forbids statements by food producers concerning the health effects of their products. The Commission criticises the fact that the rule does not differentiate between statements that are misleading and those that are not. The rule criticised by the Commission in the field of pharmaceuticals states that pharmaceutical products may be used with the approval of a doctor or a veterinary surgeon even if they do not have an approval
