AUSTRIA: GERMANS EYEING ENERGIE AG

The German energy groups E.On and Ruhrgas expressed their interest in acquiring stakes in the Upper Austrian public power company Energie AG Oberosterreich. The two companies did not submit bids for the Austrian power company, as a decision by the Upper Austrian parliament forbids a sale of the company to producers of nuclear power. Ruhrgas is a competitor of Oberosterreichische Ferngas, in which Energie AG holds a 50% stake. Bids were submitted for Energie AG by Energie Allianz of EVN, Wiener Stadtwerke and ESG of Linz and by Verbund

AUSTRIA: UPPER AUSTRIA TO JOIN ENERGIE ALLIANZ

Upper Austria's premier Josef Puhringer has announced that a 25% stake in the public power company Energie AG Oberosterreich is to be sold to EVN, Wiener Stadtwerke, Linz AG and Bewag. Energie AG will thus become member of the Energie Allianz of the four regional power companies. With about 3.6mn customers, Energie Allianz is the leading power company in the final client market in Austria. Verbund and Energie Steiermark (Estag) are the leader in the generation side, covering about half of the country's power consumption.
