AUSTRIA/GERMANY: STRABAG TO BE REORGANISED
Article Abstract:
By the end of 2002 the German and Austrian construction company Strabag is to be merged with Bauholding. Currently the Bibag holding company of RZB bank and Haselsteiner, Soravia and Lerchbaumer families owns 51% of the stock of both of the Strabag companies. The merger follows the successful restructuring of the Strabag group in Germany, which is no longer making losses.

AUSTRIA: CONSTRUCTION MARKET RECOVERING
Article Abstract:
Wifo, the Austrian Institute for Economic Forecasting, predicts construction output in Austria to grow 1.5% in real terms in year 2000 and 2% each in 2001 and 2002. In 1999 the growth rate had been 1.3% and in 1998 4.3%. Wifo predicts growth on the west European construction market to slow down in 2000 from 3% in 1999: The decline is likely to gain pace in 2001 and 2002.

AUSTRIA: KALLINGER IN FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES
Article Abstract:
The construction group of the Austrian entrepreneur Anton Kallinger has significant liquidity problems. The group owes Sch 2.5bn to banks and suppliers but denies insolvency. The construction company Universale has submitted a takeover bid for the Kallinger group. However, according to Mr Kallinger, negotiations have been broken off.
