AUSTRIA: MINISTER URGES OBB TO INVEST
Article Abstract:
In a letter to OBB management, Austria's transport minister Caspar Einem has told the national railway company Osterreichische Bundesbahnen to spend profits of Sch 500mn on investments in passenger traffic. OBB is lacking especially express train wagons. Moreover, the increase in freight traffic has resulted in a shortage of locomotives. OBB's locomotives are 15 to 20 years old on average. It is estimated that the new Taurus locomotives, the first one of which is to be delivered in a few weeks, will bring no considerable improvement in the situation before 2003.
