AUSTRIA: TICK-BORNE ENCEPHALITIS IN 2000
Article Abstract:
In year 2000, sixty cases of tick-borne encephalitis and one death were recorded in Austria. About 84% of Austrians have had at least one vaccination against viral encephalitis. Before mass vaccinations were started, there were up to 700 cases of tick-borne encephalitis in Austria per year. The morbidity rate for viral encephalitis is about 1%.

It is estimated that 80,000 people in Austria suffer from hepatitis C, which is the most common cause of chronic liver diseases in Europe.
