Denmark: TDC interested in Austrian mobile company
Article Abstract:
TDC, the Danish telecoms company, is examining the prospects of acquiring a majority stake in Connect Austria, an Austrian mobile telephony company. TDC's interest was roused by articles in Austrian papers, according to which the German energy company E.ON wants to sell its 50% stake in Connect Austria. TDC is minority shareholder in Connect Austria together with Orange and Telenor and the existing shareholders have an option to purchase the shares.

AUSTRIA: COST CUTTING AND REDUNDANCIES AT TELE.RING
Article Abstract:
Austrian fixed-line, mobile and Internet provider Tele.ring, which was taken over by US group Western Wireless in May 2001, aims to economise a double-digit sum. The cost-cutting measures affect all areas, except customer service. Among other things, one-seventh of the 720-strong workforce will be made redundant. Tele.ring, which went into operation in May 2000, currently has 320,000 mobile, 170,000 fixed-line and 50,000 Internet customers.
