After Mugabe's defeat
Article Abstract:
A draft constitution for Zimbabwe has been rejected in a referendum, which could be seen as a vote of no-confidence in the ruling ZANU-PF party and President Robert Mugabe. This means that the party will face more of a challenge in elections which may be held in April 2000. The opposition also faces the challenge of having to organize for the election. High inflation, fuel shortages and poverty contributed to the rejection of the proposed constitution, which would have given more power to Mugabe.
