Taiwan's booming shares may be in for some turbulence; tipsy prices, unsure politics could topple gains in the second half of a dramatic year
Article Abstract:
Financial analysts are forecasting uncertainty and volatility for Taiwanese stock markets during the 2nd half of 1997, after the benchmark weighted price index climbed 35% during the 1st half of the year, reaching 9394.63 on Jul 11, 1997. The electronics sector has led the growth and is expected to continue to be strong during the second half. However, while low inflation and strong domestic economic growth bode well, the market's high price-to-earnings ratio and political considerations have created uncertainty about the future.
