Microtronic of Denmark, a manufacturer of hearing aid components, purchased PIAC of the Netherlands, from Siemens, in summer 1995. The cross-border acquisition was structured as an asset purchase, financed by a mezzanine facility, which was denominated in guilders, through Intermediate Capital Group (ICG).

Unilever's empire keeps on growing

Unilever is the most active corporate acquire in the UK, making acquisitions in Chile, Romania and Nigeria, with its major purchase in the UK, of Colman's of Norwich. Pearson, was in second place in the 1995 table with 12 bids worth 545 million pounds sterling. Danka Business Systems also made 12 bids.

NatWest Markets Acquisition Finance was the top lead debt arranger in major UK buyouts during 1995, lending 520 million pounds sterling to 27 buyouts. NatWest opportunities included the remaining British Coal business and Sweater Shop. Bank of Scotland was the most prolific lender.
