Airport privatisation gaining altitude in US
Article Abstract:
The US government's Pilot Programme for the privatization of airports has seen National Express selected as the winner of a proposed 99-year lease of Stewart International Airport, situated 60 miles north of New York City, NY. The city of San Diego, CA, has also become involved in the Pilot Programme. Here, there are plans to link with Aviation Park, a 15-firm consortium, to expand and modernize the general aviation airport, Brown Field, making it a large air cargo facility. The other participant in the Pilot Programme so far is the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, which plans to lease Rafael Hernandez Airport to a private operator.
