Akzo Nobel brings in Henkel to win a deal for ICI: move marks new effort to jointly buy a rival, then later break it up

A takeover offer by Dutch chemical company Akzo Nobel N.V. and its German partner Henkel KGaA has been tentatively accepted by UK firm Imperial Chemical Industries PLC. The deal is valued at $16 bil. Akzo and Henkel are currently performing a due-diligence inspection.
