Albemarle offers to buy Albright for $656 million

Albemarle Corp. has made an offer of 408 million pound sterling ($656 million) in cash to acquire Albright & Wilson PLC. Albright & Wilson is a phosphates group. Albemarle, which manufactures specialty and fine chemicals, is making a 130 pence cash offer for every Albright's shares. The board of directors for Albright has already approved the offer. However, some analysts cautioned that other interested parties will make offers for Albright.

BOC is likely to reject joint takeover proposal

BOC Group PLC will announce that it is turning down Air Products & Chemicals Inc.-Air Liquide SA's joint acquisition proposal. The two firms were offering to acquire BOC for $11.5 billion (11.12 billion euros). The companies are some of the largest in the industrial gas industry. BOC had initially attempted to merge with Praxair Inc. However, management control disagreements killed the deal.
