Alcatel's profit is expected to fall

Alcatel SA is expecting to post a decline in its profits for the first-half of 1999. Analysts said that this was not important as was Alcatel's long-term telecommunications operation strategy. The French-based company is expected to report a 15% decline in its profits. During the same period in 1998, Alcatel posted 2.3 billion French francs (350.6 million euros).
