Alitalia operating loss blamed partly on Kosovo
Article Abstract:
Alitalia posted an operating loss for the first-half of 1999. The loss was partly attributed to the war in Kosovo. Alitalia was forced to shutdown some shore routes along the Adriatic Sea as a result of the war. In addition, passengers avoided the carrier's new hub at the Malpensa airport in Milan. Alitalia posted 121 billion lire (62.5 billion euros) in operating losses for the first-half period. During the same period in 1998, the airline posted 293 billion lire in operating profits.
