The 17-year-long Tory reign is expected to end in Britain's general election. The expected election of the Labour Party, led by Tony Blair, will not mark a turning point in British politics, however, because the Labour and the Conservative parties promote the same conservative ideas.

Robert Skidelsky resigned from the UK Conservative Party in Oct, 2001, claiming that the Tories are 'anti-intellectual', but in fact the opposite is true. The Conservatives take ideas too seriously, and internal quarrels over policy have weakened their appetite search for power.
