Share prices are rising due in large part to an increased demand for equity funds among middle-class investors. A frugal social security system, which forces Americans to plan for their own retirements, and a loosely regulated mutual fund industry, which encourages new products and lower prices, is also encouraging the industry's expansion.

US mutual fund managers face greater difficulty in getting into such markets as Europe and Asia due to restrictions on their activities. The limits are made to protect local companies and brokers. The sources through which people can purchase investments varies by country.

Many happy returns: performance is all, or is it?
Article Abstract:
Mutual funds that have good performances are more likely to advertise such fact in order to obtain business. Such emphasis does not guarantee future results, and in fact, the performance of funds and fund managers has tempered over time.
