Allied Domecq to sell unit to Whitbread

Allied Domecq PLC has agreed to sell off its pubs unit in the UK to Whitbread PLC in a deal worth 2.4 billion pound sterling ($3.83 billion). The deal will enable Allied Domecq to concentrate on its spirits brands and on its fast-food chains, both of which are the company's core businesses. Allied Domecq owns the Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins chains. Tony Hales, the chief executive of Allied Domecq, will resign his post once the deal is completed.
