An implementation of linear and nonlinear multicommodity network flows
Article Abstract:
A new algorithm for solving the linear and nonlinear cases of the multicommodity network flow problem was developed. The procedure, whose implementation is known as the PPRN code, takes into account additional linear side constraints and involves a division of the variable set into basic, nonbasic and superbasic groups. According to test runs of the code using test problems with up to 150,000 variables and 45,000 constraints, it generally performs better over existing codes for solving the problem.

A ratio model for discriminant analysis using linear programming
Article Abstract:
A criterion, the ratio of internal to external deviations or vice versa, is linearized and solved using linear programming to obtain the hybrid model with the beta normalization for discriminant analysis. Unlike the original hybrid model with beta normalization, the resulting ratio model circumvents the problem of distorted solutions arising from distance distortion to arrive at the best solution.

A comparison of nonlinear optimization methods for supervised learning in multilayer feedforward neural networks
Article Abstract:
The performance of nonlinear optimization methods in training neural networks to solve pattern classification problems was examined. Specifically, six pattern classification tasks were solved using three levels of line search accuracy and four search direction methods. The results were assessed according to the number of iterations, number of function evaluations and processing time.
