An optimal algorithm for integrating raw materials inventory in a single-product manufacturing system

Article Abstract:

An optimal algorithm for integrating raw materials inventory in a single-product manufacturing system is developed from a model unifying the inventory problem of raw materials and finished products. The shortest route algorithm is found useful in solving the grouping problem of raw materials since optimal groups of raw materials are found to be consecutive in the solution procedure. Factors involved are replenishment cost, unit carrying cost and raw material demand rate during manufacturing.

Dynamic setup reduction in production lot sizing with nonconstant deterministic demand

Article Abstract:

Three production policies are evaluated under nonconstant, deterministic demand and dynamic setup cost reduction to develop an effective production lot sizing plan. The three policies are studied for their total relevant cost behavior. Results suggest that the simplest policy has the highest total relevant cost per period (TRCP) while the more sophisticated policy has the least TRCP. However, sophisticated production policies require advanced technology.

Solution for a supply chain management problem of estimating bullwhip effect is derived by estimating mean and variance of lead-time demand. Control systems engineering is used to estimate bullwhip effect.
