An ounce of prevention...
Article Abstract:
AIDS accounted for 2.3 million deaths in 1997 and some 30 million people were infected at the start of 1998. Around a quarter of Zimbabwe's adult population is infected with AIDS. Preventing AIDS is cheaper than curing people of the disease, and promoting the usage of condoms is an effective way of reducing the transmission of the HIV virus. Prevention is less easy through using vaccines due to the different strains of the virus, but only vaccination is likely to eradicate AIDS.

No end of plagues
Article Abstract:
AIDS has become the worst plague on the African continent, but it is not the only one threatening the health of Africa's population. Much of Africa's waters contain disease-carrying parasites, and malaria has again become widespread as mosquitos have developed resistance to anti-malaria pills.
