Ongoing investigations reveal that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, Al-Qaeda's primary operational planner and designer of the September 11 attacks, originally intended for a simultaneous, two-coast attack that involved targets in the American West. Osama bin Laden curbed the scale of the plan, believing that coordination would prove too difficult.

Three luxury hotels run by Western companies were bombed yesterday in Jordan, killing approximately 60 people and wounding greater than 100. Iraq refugees have flooded into Syria and Jordan, bringing money that has funded an economic boom and perhaps laid the groundwork for terrorism. Jordan is an ally of the United States.
