ASEAN is facing its keenest challenge to date
Article Abstract:
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations will have to tackle a battery of problems following the expansion of membership and the outbreak of the regional currency crisis. The economic collapse, which started in Thailand and spread to neighboring countries, has caused discord among member nations who blame each other for the worsening crisis. ASEAN is also receiving criticism from the West for allowing Myanmar, run by a dictatorial military government, to become a member.
