Asian tourism feels the pinch as Americans opt to stay home
Article Abstract:
Americans have largely stopped flying to Asia since September 11, hurting hotels and other businesses dependent on tourism. But observers are optimistic that people will tire of staying at home, and the World Tourism Organization still expects tourist travel to rise 2% in 2001. Some Europeans who had planned to visit the United States may now decide to visit Asia instead, and Asian tourist organizations are shifting marketing efforts away from the United States to other areas of the world.

Cross-border travel declines across the region in October
Article Abstract:
October's travel figures show that regional air travel in Asia is down from the same time last year. Australia had 22% fewer visitors from New Zealand, and the overall number of tourists in Hong Kong dropped 3% in October. Additional travel statistics for various airlines and Asian countries are presented.
