Australia exploits regional economic recovery

AirServices Australia is continuing an extensive corporate restructuring program to comply with laws relating to its change of status to a commercial authority in 1997. The company reported 2.9 million chargeable aircraft movements in FY 1998-1999. Economic recovery in the Pacific region and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney are expected to increase this figure in FY 1999-2000. AirServices is also investing in global positioning system non-precision approach procedures at its airports.

Cologne/Bonn rebuilds
Article Abstract:
Scheduled traffic at the Cologne/Bonn Airport is expected to grow to 112 destinations, with the majority being medium- to short-haul destinations, such as Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Passenger traffic is also expected to rise as regional routes increase as well as from the construction of new cargo facilities. Total freight handled at Cologne/Bonn rose by 10% to 395,000 tons in 1999. Scheduled services accounted for a third of cargo while 15% came from dedicated freight operators.

Stuttgart invests
Article Abstract:
Stuttgart Flughafen Airport handled 7.7 million passengers in 1999 and passenger traffic is expected to rise to 12 million in 2000. Scheduled services are also increasing, including Delta Air Lines, which flys non- stop to Atlanta, GA, and New York, NY. Landing and parking fees accounted for 35.7% of the airports revenues for FY 1999 while 34.8% came from passenger fees. Traffic at the airport is expected to increase due to the Daimler/Chrysler merger which requires a new transatlantic shuttle.
