Australia's Colonial posts strong profit, plans to expand business in the U.K

Colonial Ltd. posted an improvement of 54% in its net profits for the first-half of 1999. Colonial is an insurance and banking operation based in Australia. The company posted A$212 million in net profits for the period. During the same period in 1998, Colonial posted A$138 million.
