Austria: Eco-friendly electricity adds costs
Article Abstract:
The environmentally friendly power of the Austria based electricity company, Wienstrom, means an additional charge on electricity of Sch 0.1per kWh, introduced on 1 November 2001, which cannot be avoided by changing supplier. The only way of avoiding this charge is to change to the 'Optima' Tariff. This is only an option for businesses that use over 6,500 kWh per year. Thus the charge for a household using 3,500 kWh per year will rise from EUR 485 to at best EUR 516. Legal steps have been taken against the City of Vienna council as the electricity regulatory body believes that only a charge of Sch 0.06 per kWh is justifiable.

Austria: IT experts cheaper
Article Abstract:
Austrian consultancy company Frontworx, founded by former director of Austrian consultancy firm Plaut, Volker Knotz, in March 2001, is expected to break even by the fourth quarter of 2001. Knotz claims that there is no longer a lack of IT experts on the market and the experts that are available are asking for much less in terms of salary. An IT expert who in 1997 would have been paid between Sch 1.2mn and Sch 1.3mn annually can now only demand Sch 900.000, although training and retraining costs are still high.
