BA shares sink on fall in passenger yield
Article Abstract:
British Airways has seen a 4.5% decline in its shares as it recorded a decrease of 4.3% in passenger yield for the first quarter ended June 1998. The carrier attributed the passenger yield decline to the strength of the British pound, economic problems in Asia and far faster growth for lower-fare leisure travel versus more-profitable business travel. British Airways reported a drop of 2.1 percentage points in the passenger load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, to 70.9% compared to the previous year.
