Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL) of Pune has announced its unaudited financial results for 6 months ended September 30, 1998. It produced 672,575 two-wheelers in the first half of 1998-99 (622,255 vehicles in the same period of 1997-98). It also produced 683,573 three-wheelers (625,140 vehicles). It had a stock of 35,050 vehicles (22,479 vehicles). BAL's exports were worth Rs82.71 crore (Rs66.14 crore). It launched 3 new vehicles - the 111 cc Bajaj Caliber in June 1998, the Bajaj Legend in August 1998 and the Bajaj Spirit in October 1998. (ag)

Bajaj Auto Ltd a leading scooter and three-wheeler manufacturing company, has posted 10 percent rise in net profit to Rs226.2 crore in the first half year of 1998-99. Its sales of three wheelers have declined by 10 percent to 85,898 units while sales of two-wheelers rose by 14 percent to 601,000 units. Its market share has risen to 87.5 percent (83 percent). It made provision for a higher depreciation of Rs80.85 crore and interest charges of Rs2.12 crore. (gs)

BAJAJ AUTO REPORTS 16% DROP IN SALES
Article Abstract:
Bajaj Auto Ltd's sales of two and three wheelers has fallen by 16 percent to 106,760 units in October 1998 compared to 127,137 units in October 1997. Its sales of scooters fell by 36 percent to 3990 units in October 1998 when compared to 6221 units in September 1998. The company attributes the decline in sales due to its plants at Waluj and Akurdi being shut down between October 18-23, 1998 for the festive season. (khr)
