BBVA tests Italian waters

Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. of Spain has an all stock bid for acquisition of Banca Nazionale del Lavoro S.p.A. of Italy for approximately $8.29 billion. Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. is awaiting the decision of Antonio Fazio, the head of the Bank of Italy for approval of the acquisition. A successful bid would give the Spanish banking interest a market capitalization of $66 billion.
