BHEL ORDER-BOOK SWELLS
Article Abstract:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) will soon have plenty of opportunities in the power plant equipment (PPE) sector. Over the next year, seven National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) projects will be bid as clearances have been received despite the US economic sanctions. Of these seven, two immediate projects are 3000 mw coal based power plants. Even though PPE prices have fallen by 30-35 percent, BHEL is still an active competitor. Other coal based projects at Bina, Bhadrawathi and Ib, totalling 2000 mw are likely to come BHEL's way. It already has the Rs2000 crore Simhadri project on hand and is likely to exceed the over- booking figure of Rs2,780 crore in 1997-98. BHEL has financed over Rs1,200 crore for various projects and has a credit line of Rs1,000 crore with ICICI and IDBI. Its consortium approach to projects has also helped BHEL along with better utilisation of assets and higher operating margins which add value to the company. (nr)
