Article Abstract:
Several Danish universities and major businesses are to co-operate in an IT project. The aim of the project, which is called InterMedia, is to make Denmark a fore-runner in the multimedia field. The Danish Minister of Industry and Trade, Jan Tr jborg, says several thousand of jobs could be created in this field, provided that great efforts are made in R&D. The project will be based at laboratories in Copenhagen, rhus and Aalborg with advanced equipment, and among the participants are Denmark's Technological University, the universities of Copenhagen, rhus and Aalborg, and corporations such as Bang & Olufsen, Tele Danmark Internet, Danfoss and Lego.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) co-operates with the University of Aalborg, Denmark. In late 1998, the company will launch a software tool, developed by the university, aimed at enabling users to solve computer problems themselves instead of using hot lines. The next step will be to integrate such a tool into the computer. HP has subsidised the university by DKr 5mn (USD 0.7mn) for R&D in this field.

SWEDEN: MICROSOFT TO ACQUIRE CABLE-TV NETWORK?

Microsoft is the most likely buyer of Telia's, the Swedish telecom's, cable-TV network, according to Swedish analysts. Another possible buyer is the Danish media group Egmont. A bid for the network might be valued at about SEK 1bn (USD 135mn), according to conservative estimates. The paper refers to Computerworld and its Swedish fellow subsidiary Computer Sweden.
