BSEL Information Systems which began operations in March 1998, purchases software from developers and markets it. It also proposes to focus on off-shore software development. The company's first product was IndiaLaws on CDs and Internet. This gives details of various forms of law structures existing in India. BSEL has also bagged a Rs1 crore order from a Canadian University to develop its entire syllabus on computers. BSEL has extended an advance of Rs20 lakh to Zoom Developers. The company floated a public issue in November 1996, of which Rs75 lakh has been taken by the promoters for using their premises. Of the total equity capital of Rs10.15 crore, Rs3.99 crore is still outstanding as arrears. During the first nine months ended December 1998. BSEL reported a turnover of Rs4.096 crore. Out of this Rs4.79 crore was notched up through exports. It posted a net profit of Rs3.96 crore. The Earnings per share works out to Rs3.90 on an issued equity capital of Rs10.15 crore. (uh) (khr)

NIIT, concentrating on training and software, has produced 195 titles like Vista Multimedia, HyperLearn and the Leda K-12 series under its own brand name. It is the first company in India to have implemented Economic Value Added, a globally renowned performance measure, to increase its shareholders' value. It has also set up NetVarsity which provides on-line training through the Internet. NIIT has a target of setting up 100 centers each year in India and abroad. Its sales increased by over 45 percent to Rs204.16 crore in the first half of 1997-98 against Rs140.25 crore in the corresponding period of 1996-97. Its net profit increased by almost 60 percent to Rs16.60 crore from Rs10.82 crore. NIIT gave an earnings per share of Rs20.70 on an equity of Rs25.77 crore in the first half of 1997-98. (khr)

It mainly manufacturers document processing systems. The company has tied-up with Microsoft, TCS, IBM and Sequent. Its sales increased by about 53 percent to Rs324.27 crore in 1997-98 against Rs212.81 crore in 1996-97. Its net profit increased by about 60 percent to Rs34.33 crore from Rs21.60 crore.
