Energy lessons from school: the development of a competition-winning school design has lessons to teach us about designing passive low-energy buildings
Article Abstract:
Plincke, Leaman and Browning's (PLB) design for D'Hautree school on Jersey responded to environmental briefs from the client, the States of Jersey. The school's energy strategy included the creation of courtyard spaces between buildings and the use of deciduous trees for shelter. There was also careful consideration of fabric sealing to control heat loss, and low level windows provided cross-ventilation.
