Bad apples? Hispanics
Article Abstract:
The prosperous apple, pear, and asparagus plantations of Washington's Yakima Valley draw much of their labor force from Jalisco and Michoacan, Mexico. The Latino population in the valley is estimated at between 40,000 and 60,000 during harvest time. The farmworkers' pay is low, and working conditions are substandard.
