Barclays names finance head, sparking rumors of new CEO

David Allvey has been appointed as Barclays PLC's new finance director. The fifty-four year old Mr. Allvey will become a member of Barclays' board on September 1, 1999. Mr. Allvey's appointment suggest that the company is planning to appoint a new chief executive officer. Mr. Allvey is the head of Barclays' corporate operations. He is also a main board director at Allied Zurich PLC. Mr. Allvey will assume the finance director post from Oliver Stocken on September 20, 1999.

Omnicom creates new global unit to monitor advertising effectiveness
Article Abstract:
DDB Worldwide, an Omnicom Group company, is creating a new global unit, DDB Matrix, to track how advertising spending amounts to sales. The unit will be headquartered in London and Chicago, and will use mathematical models to figure out how various marketing tactics affect sales, and also which media plans clients should use. The company is set up as a separate consulting unit within the agency.
