Bell secures Huey II upgrades
Article Abstract:
Bell Helicopter has successfully secured government funding for the upgrades of 42 Huey II aircraft. Bell's success comes at the expense of Sikorsky whose anticipated order fro 30 UH-60l Black Hawks has been reduced to 18. The Huey II upgrades are designed to assist Colombian efforts to fight drug production and trafficking. The 42 new airframes are expected to be surplus US Army UH-1H which will be refurbished by Bell and delivered unarmed. The 42 kits are expected to be completed by Dec 2001.

S-76 production reorganised
Article Abstract:
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp will outsource the S-76 structure and some installation jobs to Czech Republic-based Aero Vodochody Ltd after the helicopter manufacturer ceased the S-76 production and closed its flight test facility in West Palm Beach, FL, in Mar 31, 2000. However, the final assembly of the S-76 will done at the company's plant in Stratford, CT. The main reasons for outsourcing are to reduce manufacturing costs and free up space for the S-92 program.

Article Abstract:
Erickson AirCrane acquired seven surplus Sikorsky CH-54A/B Skycrane helicopters from Silver Bay Logging, which bought them from the US Army. Currently, Erickson is increasing its 17th S-64 Skycrane for heavy-lift and fire-fighting sorties, and is converting some of the new purchases to the same certification configuration. On Aug 11, 2000, the company was operating eight S-64/AE/Fs in North America and Europe on fire-fighting operations.
