Bending, maybe: Peru
Article Abstract:
Fujimori abolished Peru's Congress and judiciary and made himself dictator on Apr 5, 1992, little more than a year after year was elected. Fujimori underestimated world response to his actions, however, and was surprised to find that aid and trade were almost entirely withdrawn. Fujimori was forced to capitulate and promise to hold elections soon.

Fading: Peru
Article Abstract:
Declining support for Fujimori may weaken his ability to establish a constitutional democracy. The main reason behind decreasing support is Peru's troubled economy. Foreign aid lessened after formal democracy was defeated, and this contributed to economic problems.
