Bertelsmann joins havas to buy Spanish publishing firm Doyma

Ediciones Doyma SA, a medical publishing group based in Barcelona, Spain, is being acquired by both Havas SA of France and Bertelsmann AG of Germany. Havas and Bertelsmann will each hold a 50% interest in Doyma, with Havas having management control. Doyma, which posted sales of $34.6 million in 1997, is the publisher of 69 medical magazines and journals. It is the leader in its area in Spain, and has a presence in such Latin American markets as Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. The acquisition of Doyma gives Bertelsmann and Havas a strong presence in the Spanish medical publishing market.

LVMH denies intentions to launch bid for Gucci

French luxury leather goods giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vutton S.A., reports that it is not making an acquisition offer for Italian luxury goods company Gucci Group N.V., although it recently increased its holding in Gucci's stock. LVMH Moet Hennessy currently holds 14.8% of Gucci's stock.
