Better living through chaos
Article Abstract:
Chaos theory, or non-linear dynamics, has been used in medicine to help understand how the immune system, brain and heart function. Work on epilepsy using chaos theory could lead to treatments with no need for surgery. Brains are naturally chaotic, and order is characteristic of fits, while the heart is orderly in its healthy state. Meanwhile, work on the immune system suggests that small doses of drugs may be more effective, administered at different times, than one does administered continously.
